Measuring Lamp Shade Size

The height of a floor lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base x 30 to 40.

Measuring lamp shade size.

The height of a table lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base to bottom of socket x 60 up to 70. The height of the lampshade should be 2 3 the height of the lamp base. Place the measuring tape across the top diameter in the center. Measure shade height along the slant.

Lamp shade dimensions are typically measured as top x bottom x slant. The slant is the length of the side of the lamp shade. The width of the lamp shade is equal to the height of the base of the lamp. Top denotes the diameter or width if measuring a square lamp shade of the top of the lamp shade.

If your shade has a square shape measure one side of the square from corner to corner for the proper measurement. Hold your tape measure at one end of the top edge of the lamp shade and pull it across to the opposite edge in the right in the middle. And when you re considering width don t forget location. Bottom denotes the diameter or width of the bottom of the lamp shade.

If you are happy with the size of the shade you are replacing just measure the old one with a ruler or retractable tape measure. There are three main rules that you need to know when it comes to measuring your lamp shade. Lastly the lampshade must be wider than the widest part of the lamp base. For a round base measure straight across.
